‘WORKIN’ LIKE A DOG BIO My many years in Disney Animation and Muppets inspired my world with a cartoon vision. This vision ignited with a rescued puppy, named Sinbad, a Muppet looking character right out of Dr. Seuss. Adopted from a shelter, trained and a certified Therapy Dog, Sinbad is a ‘Mutt Show’ winner, including The Great American Mutt Show (NYC), Nuts For Mutts (LA) and Disney commercials. My career at a crossroads, I was looking for a new idea and little did I know it was right in front of me!

A former New Yorker, the tragedy of 9/11 affected everyone, but I was inspired to see so many working together to help. I set out to capture that spirit and began developing Sinbad’s image to reflect our mixed breed culture in the face of diversity…and at the same time, a fresh way to communicate safety to kids. Thus, ‘Workin’ Like A Dog’ was born!

The California State Firefighters Association was first to endorse my concept, on their site and magazine, launching the “Workin’ Like A Dog’ Safety Comics with Sinbad learning safety tips from the ‘working’ canines. My Abyssinian cat, Hopi, joined the pack as Sinbad’s sidekick, mirroring their close, real-life relationship. With the NY Ad Council’s permission, a special comic featuring Sinbad and Smokey Bear paved the way to an opportunity with the Department of Homeland Security and a future link with the Paw Patrol campaign. The Newspapers In Education Program followed with the development of a 16-page newspaper safety supplement featuring Sinbad and the Paw Patrol, for schools nationwide this fall.

Our first worldwide license will be released this fall with Andover Fabrics, who quickly saw great potential in an appealing character, and a chance to reach a wider audience with a great message. I am delighted to have the opportunity to share the inspiration of a funny looking mutt who changed my life and celebrate all of us who truly are ‘workin’ like a dog’!
